The most common B flat soprano clarinet consists of a mouthpiece that has a ligature to hold a single cane reed in place, a barrel that can help you fine tune the clarinet, an upper joint with keys and holes that are covered with the left hand, a lower joint with keys and holes covered with the right hand and a flared bell at the end that improves the tone for the clarinet's lower notes. I seem to be finding more of them that are stubbornly stuck than screws with heads on the other horns that I have been reconditioning.

The others were made by companies that never got much press, weren't in business very long, weren't routinely imported to America, etc. Some evidence of minor dent work around the thumb hook, but otherwise close to perfect. SML - Strasser, Marigaux, LeMaire was a French woodwind consortium that made amazing saxophones and clarinets and some nice flutes, too! The Bb Clarinet has a distinctive difference between it's registers, which are pitched a 12th apart.

Before we send you any wood clarinet, we take off all the keywork, polish the bores, tighten the metal tubes into the top joint, replace the Eb-Bb, the C#-F# and the register pads with waterproof cork and then lighten the spring action. Band members and drummers find it hard to discuss music, as drummers usually don't even notice the band is playing (usually because the band is never watching the drum major). It's an excellent Haynes that shows superb workmanship and tone-color.

Definitely not for everybody, but for those wanting the tone-color of a pre-war Heckel bassoon, but for a much lower price, this is one to consider. Traditionally, before the 20th century, woodwind instruments in European orchestras were made from boxwood trees native to the continent, Bridgland said. Consigned at Thomas Musical Instruments on the west side of Santa Cruz is this lovely Conn clarinet with a rare articulation on the C#/G# key. Bell Design aids in projection and improves intonation in lower notes, allowing for consistency and confidence. “Blue” steel spring material gives the keys a lighter touch and feel while producing a smooth, quick action.

But, however, the key has considerable influence on the flow of air even when it is fully open - that is easily shown: Do open a ring key by moving your fingertip up for a couple of millimeters and swing the finger up and down. This one is a superb player, virtually identical to Louis Lot #4566 that I've reserved for my own use and have played for the past decade. Conn, the tone-color is full and round, with infinite possibilities for the strong player. In my mind bassoon owns the other woodwinds but I wouldn't say as a whole that woodwinds are better than brass.

In 1954, Selmer introduced its famous Mark VI and Centered Tone B-flat clarinet models, and in 1960, the Series 9 B-flat and A clarinets were issued. It's a fine "fully hand-made" Haynes with French (open) keys and B foot. The key pearls are still sharp, the hinge tubes tight.
